You are born a spiritual baby, and then you grow up. Likewise, no one is born a full grown Christian. No one is born a full grown human naturally and physically. Here the Bible talks about new-born babies. So let’s look at the characteristics of each stage and see if we can locate ourselves.Īs new-born babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby. They are: Babyhood, Childhood and Manhood.
The Bible speaks of at least three stages in spiritual development which correspond to three stages in physical development. The fivefold ministry gifts were given to the body of Christ to help them grow spiritually. He needs us to grow up so that we can do the work of the ministry.
So we see in the above verses that God wants us to grow up in all things into Jesus. To the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting but speaking the truth in love, may GROW UP in all things into Him who is the head – Christ… Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”Īnd He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, It will locate where you are spiritually, then after you’ve located yourself, they will help you grow out of that stage into another stage – spiritually.ĭo you know that it’s not God’s will for you to remain a baby or child spiritually but to grow up and become mature in Him? Some things that we will talk about might seem unrelated but it is those things that will help you to grow.
In these lessons, we are going to talk about growing up – Spiritually.
You don’t become a full grown Christian overnight just like you never became a full grown human being overnight. We must allow God to develop that process in us. We all need to understand that growing up is a process, both physically and spiritually.
